DESCRIPTION

The Hodgco Grader Scraper 2000 Series is a multi-purpose pull machine which can be used,

• as a scraper for bulk earthmoving applications
• a grader with fine laser controlled guidance, giving height accuracy of ±2cm
• a ripper for loosening soil before loading.

The Hodgco Grader Scraper is manufactured by John Hodge and Ben Hodge under the company name of J R Hodge and Co in Numurkah, Victoria, Australia.

The Hodgco Grader Scraper is a pull type scraper or pull pan, which can be pulled behind various large 4WD and tracked tractors of 400 HP or more. Typical brands can be John Deere, Case, Caterpillar, New Holland, Bell.

This pull scraper is a formidable earthmoving machine that can shift thousands of cubic metres of dirt over short and long distances quickly and economically.

This pull scraper, also called a pull pan, uses an ejector system that includes a moving floor that assists in loading dirt, giving significantly more capacity of 20 cubic metres (20m3) or 27 cubic yards. The ejector has 2.75 metres of travel making 4.3 metres of floor length. This is a massive load of dirt in an earthmoving machine that has been loaded using only 400 to 500Hp, with no help from a bulldozer, excavator or other tractor.

Another feature of the ejector scraper system is, no dirt can build up in the corners: eliminating this costly down time and the ability to unload on a steep incline grade. The ejector pull scraper has a fixed cutting edge giving the mouldboard significant strength with the ability to fit very aggressive stepped and teethed, stinger, frost bite cutting edge. The teeth can be 300mm wide by 150mm down.

The Hodgco Grader Scraper is also a stable, accurate grading machine that provides unbeatable final grade finishes. The specifically-designed wheel twin walking beam system places the wheels alongside the load; this allows for several features:

• wheels are put very close together; this enhances the self cleaning ability, eliminating clay build up and saving tyres
• bringing the wheels forward of the rear load of dirt; making the grader wheels take as much weight as possible, (80% grader, 20% tractor); this is a very important feature to ensure the tractor is not overloaded.
• the dreaded whole machine wobbling (duck walking) has been eliminated
• final grade speeds have been increased to 15 km/h.

On the right hand side of the machine is a cross leveller that can raise and lower the machine 75 mm either way from level. This range is very useful when doing construction work such as digging dams, drains, roadways or wherever a batter is needed.

A strong set of rippers is on the rear of the machine; these use a four point linkage system for raising and lowering. All ripper tynes are shear bolt protected: when an unknown object is hit the bolt breaks allowing the tyne to kick back. Also the rippers are very close to the machine allowing the machine to turn sharply without bending the tynes when ripping at full depth.The rippers will rip the soil at the depth the operator sets and will remain there until told to move by the operator.

By raising the cutting edge, the operator can have all of the tynes in the ground at the same depth. When the cutting edge is lowered to near the ground only the front ripper row is in deep and the back row is up, just scratching the surface.

The Hodgco Grader Scraper also features the Hodgco Control System which is a electronic control module that control all grader functions, including ejector and apron position, cutting edge and ripper height, digital cross leveller and comprehensive data recording. This controller will interface will all brands of laser guidance and Global Positioning Systems (GPS).

Hodgco requires the use of the Hodgco Cushion Hitch for hook up between tractor pull scraper, grader. This device is a suspension system on the drawbar that reduces the shock loading experienced when driving the tractor with a heavy load. This will significantly reduce machine and operator fatigue.

To further enhance the smooth and fail safe connection between the tractor and pull scraper, the Hodgco Ball, which is also mandatory, is used; this is an 8 inch tow ball that will last a very long time. A slide in clevis is available to provide easy tractor hook up to other implements as required.

The Hodgco Grader Scraper was featured in many of the Australian newspapers and magazines and as a excellent idea. More publicity was received when it won the Tractor and Machinery Association's Best Australian Made Machine of 2004.

CONTROL SYSTEM

Specially designed for the new 2000 Series Grader Scraper, this system offers the operator four different operating modes all using the simple joystick.

A display on the face of the control box normally displays time of day and current operating mode, but changes to other important information when things don’t go according to plan!

All functions are self-monitored and error codes are displayed when necessary.

Recorded data includes machine hours, ripping hours and number of loads.

This data is applied to individual jobs and drivers. Total machine work is also recorded and cannot be altered or deleted.

Data is only recorded when tractor is moving and may be accessed at any time to assist in evaluating performance against quotes.

An advanced automatic cross leveller capable of maintaining any set angle for batter trimming or flat finish grading is also provided.

The ripper is operated by switching the joystick to ripper control.
